Apples
This time of year seems perfect for hanging out with friends and family and enjoying the foods that everyone brings to the table.
Sharing meals together is a core human experience and one that makes for great experiences. Some of those foods will be good, some will be good for your soul. Some will be terrible for your gut or your heart. All of them will contribute to lasting memories. What does not make for great memories is being crampy and sick all the way until New Years only to repeat the process.
This year, try my strategy. Take an apple and put it in your coat pocket or eat one just before you arrive at the party. That apple will be the front lines of your gut defense. For one, it helps to provide a feeling of fullness and make you less likely to overindulge. Secondly, it's packed with the good stuff you need to keep your digestion rolling right along. Third, eating an apple refreshes your moral compass. I mean, who can do sketchy things when they just ate an apple?
Try it, you will thank me.
